LULAC Rallies To The Aid Of Puerto Ricans Left Shaken And Angered By The Latest
Corruption Arrests
===============================================================================

Nation's Largest and Oldest Latino Civil Rights Organization Recommits Its
Support For the People of Puerto Rico and Urges Congress to Issue $2,000 Per
Person Direct Stimulus
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington, DC - Domingo Garcia, national president of the League of United Latin
American Citizens (LULAC), issued a statement after the latest arrest of a former
governor of Puerto Rico and two other suspects tied to a political action
committee.

"First and foremost, LULAC is committed to working with the people of Puerto Rico
and supporting their efforts to clean up their government. We stand with them in
their desire to have a government that represents the people. Also, we are
committed to ensuring that Puerto Rico gets the infrastructure it needs but that
the aid and the help go directly to the people. The money must not fall into the
corrupt hands of Puerto Rican politicians of the PNP party. I am again urging
that the Congress of the United States pass a stimulus package to give directly
to the people of Puerto Rico. Issuing a $2000 check to every person on the island
will stimulate their economy and help create jobs. This direct assistance is far
better than giving money to politicians who seem to be squandering it and are not
using it in the people's best interests.

Also, the arrest of a former governor for corruption only confirms that LULAC was
correct in canceling this past Saturday's National Assembly. Corruption from
foreign interference by a political party infiltrated the internal affairs of
LULAC, and we have always been independent; we're strong and fight corruption. We
will make sure that this does not ever happen again. LULAC stood up against
disruption in a hostile takeover by a foreign political entity. To the people of
Puerto Rico, LULAC says estamos contigo en tu pelea; we are with you in your
fight."
