Plus: Our chance to reverse a Trump-era assault on clean water, USPS to invest in electric vehicles, and more.
ACTION SPOTLIGHT
New Resolve in our Fight for Climate Action
Across the country and around the world, the worsening impacts of climate change are more apparent than ever. Record-shattering high temperatures, raging wildfires, and devastating flooding are the story of the summer.
In a major clean energy comeback, critical budget legislation now making its way through Congress will invest billions of dollars to expand clean energy, electric vehicles, and climate justice programs. This bill, which will enable us to cut emissions by 40% by 2030, is far from perfect, and includes some handouts to the fossil fuel industry. But it’s a critical step toward reaching our climate goals.
Unfortunately, anti-environment members of Congress and their fossil fuel allies are hell-bent on derailing this bill for the sake of oil industry profits. We must fight back.
DEADLINE APPROACHING: Tell the EPA to Reverse Trump-Era Assault on the Clean Water Act!
A critical new EPA proposal would reverse a Trump-era regulation that restricted states' and Tribes' authority to protect their waterways from destructive pro-polluter projects.
The proposed ruling is a good first step to restoring the original intention of the Clean Water Act and would give states and Tribes more flexibility to protect their waters from impacts caused by federally-permitted projects like hydro dams, oil and gas pipelines, and wetland fills, but it can go even further.
The EPA is accepting public comments on this important proposal — but only until August 8. That means we only have THREE MORE DAYS to compel them to issue the strongest possible rule.
Post Office to Deliver More Clean Trucks: Facing unprecedented opposition to its plan to invest in polluting delivery vehicles — including a lawsuit filed by NRDC and our partners and more than 500,000 messages of opposition from NRDC activists and our allies — the U.S. Postal Service announced it would buy thousands more clean electric vehicles for its fleet. This is a big step in the right direction, but our work's not done — we must keep pushing USPS to invest in 100% EVs. Read more >
Governor Hochul Signs Critical Climate Bill into Law: The Advanced Building Codes, Appliance and Equipment Efficiency Standards Act of 2022 strengthens building codes and expands energy efficiency standards for everyday appliances, helping lower New Yorkers' utility bills and curb climate-busting carbon emissions.
ACTION ROUNDUP
Tell the U.S. Postal Service to Purchase 100% Electric Vehicles: USPS has a second chance to invest in 100% electric vehicles for their new fleet of delivery trucks instead of gas-guzzlers that would lock us into decades of more carbon pollution. Submit your public comment by the August 15 deadline >
Tell President Biden: No More Oil and Gas Leasing on Our Shared Public Lands and Oceans: Fossil fuel lobbyists are pressuring the Biden administration to open up even more of our priceless natural treasures to destructive oil and gas drilling.
