On Tuesday, voters in the US state of Kansas voted to reject an amendment that would have confirmed that there is no right to abortion in the state constitution. The amendment was defeated with 58 percent voting “No” and 41 percent voting “Yes”.

Pro-abortion supporters wasted no time in declaring their win as proof that the Supreme Court decision in overturning Roe v Wade was out of step with public opinion across America, with the Politico news outlet describing the outcome as a “political earthquake”.

While the result is undoubtedly disappointing from a pro-life standpoint, it is not altogether surprising. Since the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs was handed down in June, there has been a full-on tsunami of misinformation and fearmongering in the US media about the impact of the decision, with commentators and news organisations repeating the lie that the lives of pregnant women are now in danger and that treatments for ectopic pregnancies and other life-threatening conditions would likely be denied in states where restrictions on abortion provision are introduced.

Voters in Kansas went to the polls on Tuesday with too many questions unanswered about what would happen in the event of the amendment being passed. Pro-life campaigners in the US are understandably exhilarated by the overturning Roe v Wade after an almost 50 year battle. That momentous victory still stands and is going to result in countless unborn lives being saved from certain death in the coming years.

The Kansas result from earlier this week however is a sobering lesson that the pro-life side in the US needs to pick its battles wisely. If they are going to ask voters to side with them on key amendments, they need to be fully prepared to deal with the onslaught of misinformation that voters will inevitably have to contend with from pro-abortion sources, featuring multi-million dollar campaigns backed by the likes of George Soros and his friends.

Grace Hartsock from Students for Life USA ()

A member of Students for Life in the US was physically assaulted last weekend when doing a door-to-door canvass on the pro-life issue.

Student Grace Hartsock says a woman answered the door and politely said she didn’t wish to engage on the issue. A few seconds later, as Hartsock turned to leave, another voice from the house, also a woman, started yelling and cursing at her.

The woman then followed Hartsock down the driveway and started punching her on the head with closed fists. She screamed obscenities at the young pro-life volunteer and told her: “I hope you get raped and I hope you get run over by a car”.

Hartsock has filed a complaint with the Police Department in Leawood,KS, where the incident occurred. SFL spokesperson Kristi Hamrick has told reporters that since the attack Hartsock has experienced headaches and soreness. Thankfully some of the incident was caught on camera.

Since May of this year, when the media leak first emerged that the Supreme Court was about to overturn Roe v Wade, there have been multiple attacks on pro-life individuals across the US, and more than 50 pro-life centres have been attacked, with several severely damaged as a result of firebombings. The most serious incident of all was the attempted assassination in June of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh by 26-year-old Nicholas Roske from California. Despite all the attacks on pro-life individuals and groups, the mainstream media has for the most part ignored them and looked the other way.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly is expected to make a decision very soon on whether to end or sanction the continuation of telemedicine home abortions.

In a very distrubing new finding, 15% of women in the UK said they experienced pressure to go though with an abortion they didn't want to have.*

The HSE in Ireland recently acknowledged** that coercion is MORE likely to occur when abortions happen remotely.

Telemedicine abortion is anti-woman as well as anti-baby.

Participants on the programme will have an opportunity to network with other young people and develop skills in advocacy, campaign management and project planning.

Internships run for one-week periods and are suitable for second level (Transition year or older) and third level students.

Each intern will do 4 hours supervised work each day and will be working on areas such as social media, contact with members of the movement nationwide, project planning and contributing to support work for women and their babies.

Internships are not paid, however expenses will be covered.
