This race was not an even playing field.

NNU - Medicare for All!

On Tuesday, Medicare for All champion, Rep. Andy Levin, lost his primary in Michigan’s new 11th District.

Andy is one of the candidates we supported in our new Nurses for Democracy campaign we launched this year to build power and fight back against the far right in the lead up to the midterms and beyond.

While this isn't the outcome we hoped for, we’re so proud of all the work our Nurses for Democracy volunteers did to support Andy’s campaign. Together our volunteers sent 205,000 texts and made over 3,000 phone calls.

But unfortunately, this race was not an even playing field. One single super PAC spent more than $4.2 million to help Andy’s opponent prevail.

This race represents much of what we’re seeing across the board this election cycle. Dark money – predominantly from wealthy rightwing and corporate donors – is pouring into elections, and it’s one of the main reasons why we launched Nurses for Democracy. We need massive grassroots power to counter big money interests that are poisoning our democracy.

We’re launching our next effort to support the reelection of Medicare for All champion, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, and are looking for volunteers to help us reach out to voters in New York’s 16th congressional district. Will you sign up to help?

Throughout this election cycle, a massive super PAC called “United Democracy Project,” created by AIPAC, which opposes any criticism of Israeli policies, has poured money into multiple attacks on progressive Democrats.  AIPAC says they support “mainstream” Democrats, yet they have endorsed 37 Republicans who voted against certifying President Biden’s victory after the Jan. 6 insurrection.

It’s up to all of us to counter these dark money attempts to spread misinformation and buy off our elections. One of the best ways we can do that is by organizing and talking to voters one-on-one about the candidate and Medicare for All.

Sign up here to join our next round of texting and phone banks to support the reelection of progressive champion, Jamaal Bowman.

Jamaal has been a fighter for working people since he was elected to Congress in 2020, and he’s a key progressive leader in the House championing Medicare for All and legislation that will bring about transformative change in this country.

Jamaal is facing an extremely well-funded challenger supported by corporate PACs and the same establishment that he defeated in his first election.

His background as an educator and a community leader in New York makes him one of the most compassionate, fierce advocates for health care for all.

Please join us in helping send Jamaal back to Congress this November.

With determination,
