I love Montana summers, hiking in the mountains with my dogs and riding horses across valley fields.
With wildfires and flooding out west, I don’t take these activities for granted. I’m grateful for clean air and water. My love of nature and passion for social justice are why I’m fighting for climate action.
In the U.S., we can thank our bedrock environmental laws for protecting our air and water. This year, we’re celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Clean Air Act, 50 years of the Clean Water Act, and 49 years of protecting wildlife through the Endangered Species Act.
These landmark laws have done so much to protect our environment. To name just a few:
# Banning DDT and bringing iconic birds like the bald eagle and peregrine falcon back from the brink of extinction,
# Slashing sulfur dioxide pollution and neutralizing the threat of acid rain (at just one-fourth of the projected cost!), and
# Preventing billions of pounds of pollution from being dumped in our water and doubling the number of U.S. rivers, lakes and coastal waters safe for swimming and fishing.
