Hi John,

Three years ago, back to back mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton shook the nation. On August 3, 2019, the country went to sleep grieving the senseless act of anti-immigrant hate and white supremacy that stole 23 lives and wounded 23 others at a Walmart in El Paso, TX. The next day, we awoke to news that a gunman in Dayton, OH had opened fire outside a bar, killing nine people and wounding 17 others.

Both shooters used semi-automatic assault rifles equipped with high-capacity magazines to carry out their attacks. In Dayton, the shooter had a 100-round magazine. He fired 41 shots into the crowd in less than 30 seconds.

We fought for years for the lifesaving restrictions on high-capacity magazines that passed this year because we know it makes tragedies like El Paso and Dayton less likely. But our opponents have filed a second lawsuit in a last-ditch effort to undo our progress. We need your help to defend against this baseless gun lobby attack. Please, contribute $5 today to help protect our progress.

High-capacity magazines make shootings deadlier. Whether a state prohibits high-capacity magazines is the single greatest predictor of mass shooting rates. If these legal attacks are successful, we could be forced back to the time when it was perfectly legal in Washington for a gunman to buy a 100 round magazine like the one used in Ohio.

We know this law is constitutional. But now more than ever, we’re facing an uphill battle through the courts. We have what it takes to win, but we won’t be able to do it alone. We can’t afford to move backwards. Give today to help protect our high-capacity magazine restrictions and save lives.

Thank you,

Renée (she/her)
