Congressman Al Green Joins Houston Area Officials for Grand Opening of Light Rail Lofts Veteran Housing

(Houston, TX) — On Thursday, August 4, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:

“As a sitting member of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services, I am acutely aware of the homelessness crisis afflicting the United States, especially as it relates to our Veterans. Far too many Veterans do not have access to the kind of quality, affordable housing they have earned and undoubtedly deserve as a result of their qualified military service. After all they sacrifice in the name of protecting our freedoms and liberties, ensuring they have a place to call home is the least a grateful nation can do.”

“Light Rail Lofts is a welcome addition to Houston’s affordable housing scene. The lofts include over 50 studio apartments, with at least 20 of those solely dedicated for occupation by Veterans and their families who, according to the City of Houston, “earn at or below 30 to 60 percent of the area median income,” Congressman Al Green concluded. “I am grateful to all individuals who have made this project possible, as well as to every community member present demonstrating their support for our Veterans and the creation of more affordable housing.”
