Hi John —
My name is Luke O’Connell and I’ve joined Team Scanlon as the new Campaign Manager! I’m honored and grateful to be on Mary Gay’s team heading into the critical 2022 midterms. Before we talk more about the election and what Mary Gay has been up to, I wanted to introduce myself a bit!
I’m originally from Long Island, trust me if we were speaking in person you'd recognize my accent from a mile away. And Long Island is where I first got into politics! My very first political memory was back in 2004 voting for John Kerry in our elementary school election. I caught the bug then and once I got into the field it became clear that I was most motivated by Democrats who share my values.

Since I’ve been on the ground in PA-05 I’ve been loving working with our Team Scanlon volunteers and Democracy Summer fellows — even in these times, they give me hope for the future. Young people are too frequently counted out in political discourse but personally, considering the challenges they face, thinking about younger generations and particularly the LGBTQ+ youth drives me to improve their lives through our work.
That’s why it means so much to me that Mary Gay is committed to protecting marriage equality and has a proven track record of standing up for LGBTQ+ issues. Following the Dobbs decision with the Supreme Court setting their sights on other civil rights decisions like Obergefell, we need champions like Mary Gay in Congress.
Those are just a few of the reasons I am excited to be on Team Scanlon and I hope you’ll join me in supporting Mary Gay by chipping in to our reelection campaign!
