Metro Access drivers, from ATU Local 689, are at the table with WMATA contractor Transdev. They are negotiating for better wages and benefits, conditions, dignity, and respect at their workplace. We joined them in the picket line this week and the voices echo: the pay is too low, the benefits help no one, work is unsafe, and there is no sign of Transdev’s engaging in good faith negotiations through this process.
ATU Local 689 made a clear ask: they want a contract “that puts our members on a pathway to the middle class.” Metro Access drivers and community allies will do what it takes for workers to be heard. It is clear that we have to amplify the worker voices to ensure they are strong at the negotiation table.
