My friends,

It's been a difficult summer. But now, it’s August, and the back-to-school commercials have returned. I'm looking forward to this new season, despite the challenges ahead.

I’m glad to say that thanks to you, the first month of the general election was a success. Although that was just the beginning of this fight.

This summer, the Supreme Court proved their far-right loyalties by dismissing reproductive rights for hundreds of millions of Americans.

Families lost their children, parents, and grandparents to senseless and entirely preventable gun violence.

The January 6th Committee uncovered a plot by our nation’s highest officials to subvert our Constitution – just to fulfill their authoritarian power fantasies.

Whew…that was pessimistic.

Healing our country’s deep wounds can feel, frankly, impossible. People in my own life and across the nation are wondering if our best days are behind us.

My answer? Only if we give in to our cynicism and doubt and despair. But folks, the choice is ours.

So, we get to work. Rebuild all of these burned bridges. Talk to friends and neighbors who think differently. Get involved in your community, volunteer, canvass, and even chip in $10 or $15 to a crucial battleground race like this one.

Folks, remember that the majority of us share a fundamental goodness. A small minority of cruel, vengeful people can’t change that, try as they may. There is hatred here, but love has got the numbers.

When everything seems hopeless, be the hope. And always lead with love.
