Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and South Brooklyn My friend... Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL I joined a bipartisan group of House colleagues in voting to pass two measures that would redirect funding from the VA's Asset and Infrastructure Review (AIR) Commission that is recommending the closure or consolidation of our local VA hospitals. This is another step in the right direction, however, I won't stop fighting until President Biden ends the work of the AIR Commission altogether. Anything less is unacceptable and puts our veterans at risk. READ MORE This year we will commemorate the 21st anniversary of September 11, 2001. In Congress, I've been working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure those impacted by that fateful day have equal access to the health care and compensation they deserve. READ MORE I've also partnered with New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer to introduce bipartisan measures to prevent federal dollars from going toward this scheme until a full and thorough analysis is completed and a credit system is established to ensure our residents are not double-tolled. Watch our interview on FOX5 NY by clicking below. WATCH During a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing, I pressed U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on New York City's Congestion Pricing Plan and how it's irresponsible to move forward without knowing the potential economic and environmental consequences. READ MORE IN THE DISTRICT I’ve written to New York Chief Judge Janet DiFiore and Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts Lawrence Marks urging them to make the necessary changes to ensure judges elected by Staten Islanders are serving within our borough's court system after a Manhattan judge released a violent career criminal back onto our streets. Those who are not elected by our constituency should not be making decisions that jeopardize the safety and well-being of our community. READ MORE I've joined Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon in writing to area U.S. Attorneys requesting help with addressing the recent spike in car thefts being conducted by transnational organized criminals in New York City. The NYPD is working tirelessly to prevent and investigate these thefts, however, the sheer amount of man hours it takes to solve even the most routine grand larceny auto crime is massive. The feds should establish a task force to ensure these thefts don't continue and the criminals are brought to justice. READ MORE I joined our community in celebrating National Night Out Against Crime in Staten Island and Brooklyn. While some vilify and work to defund our police, I secured millions in funding for the NYPD to purchase new forensic equipment, protective equipment and train its K9 unit. I salute our law enforcement and pledge to keep fighting for the laws, tools, and support they need to keep our city safe. IN THE NEWS Malliotakis Discusses Recession Fears, GOP efforts to Combat Inflation I joined Fox News' America Reports to discuss recession fears, Republicans' efforts to combat inflation, and cut back on Democrats' bloated government spending that has only increased costs on basic goods and services for the American people. WATCH Rep. Malliotakis, 60 other Americans, named to Iranian sanctions list Iran announced sanctions on dozens of Americans over the weekend, including Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn). The sanctions on Malliotakis and 60 other Americans followed the congresswoman’s participation in the Free Iran Summit put on by the Organization of Iranian American Communities, which is opposed to the Iranian government that took control of the country following the 1979 revolution.
