NEW RESULTS

New Study Shows that Both Skills Training and Cash Transfers Programs had Positive Impacts

Researchers: Craig McIntosh and Andrew Zeitlin

Both a workforce readiness/skills training and unconditional cash transfer program had positive short-term and long-term effects on various outcomes, and approximately half of the benefits observed after 18 months of implementation were still present more than three years later, according to a new study led by researchers from Georgetown University and the University of California, San Diego. Due to the fading impacts, it is impossible to determine whether the Huguka Dukore program was better than cash transfers in the long run. However, the evidence shows that cash had greater benefits in the short term, especially in terms of income, consumption, and subjective well-being.
