The Fight for a Hunger Free America This August

Did you see Hunger Free America featured in Gothamist last month? As inflation grows, many families are finding it harder and harder to put food on the table. At HFA, our incredible team works to connect people in need with vital programs such as SNAP, WIC and P-EBT.

Can you help us continue this important work by making a donation to Hunger Free America?

AmeriCorps VISTAs Help Kids Learn about Food and Nutrition

Last month HFA CEO Joel Berg visited Troy University's Summer Garden program in Troy, Alabama. The program is supported by Hunger Free America and AmeriCorps VISTAs, who work with the university and the local Boys and Girls club to teach kids about gardening, and how to grow healthy food.

You can read more about Joel's visit, and about the Summer Garden program HERE.

Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids

Last month, Representatives Robert C. “Bobby” Scott and Suzanne Bonamici introduced the Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids Act (H.R. 8450), which builds on Congressional Democrats’ work to expand school and summer meal programs, increase access to federal nutrition programs like the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and prevent child hunger.

Specifically, the legislation will:

  • Expand access to school meals,
  • Preserve the future of school meal programs,
  • Increase funding for USDA's Hunger Hotline, run by Hunger Free America
  • Modernize the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC),
  • Address food insecurity during the summer,
  • Improve school meal capacity and sustainability, and
  • Strengthen the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Please contact your representatives and ask them to support Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids! You can find your representative's contact information below:
