Dear Ward 8 Residents,

This year, I will host my annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway & Community Fun Day in collaboration with the Davon Thomas McNeal Foundation in the Bellevue community of Ward 8 and the event will take place on:

Saturday, August 13th, at Bald Eagle Recreation Center from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

We are excited to bring this annual event to the community and confidently send our scholars back to school. This year, we have a host of activities for families to enjoy, including:
* Game truck
* Facepainting
* Barbers & braiders
* Moonbounces
* Free food
* Live DJ and special youth performances
* Vendors of all kinds

I encourage families to register their students who may need a backpack and school supplies. To participate, residents must:
* Be a Ward 8 resident.
* Present photo ID
* Present proof of residency (a current utility bill or lease with a Ward 8 address is acceptable).

Resources to the Block at Robinson Place SE.

On July 28th, the Office of Councilmember White held our Resources to the Block community engagement event on Robinson Place SE. Residents came out to enjoy some hot food, good music and of course the dozens of vendors offering essential services.

Meet Wendy Glenn

One team member who likely needs no introduction is Wendy Glenn, the Director of Constituent Services for the Office of Councilmember Trayon White.

As the Director of Constituent Services, she is a liaison for Ward 8 constituents to District agencies. Wendy also works directly with residents, connecting them to services offered by community-based organizations.

Wendy's areas of expertise and oversight responsibilities include working with agencies such as:
* The Department of Employment Services (DOES)
* Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)
* Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL)
* ERCPC/ACC Faith Leaders
* Ward 8 Health Council
* ANC8A

Q: What do you love most about Ward 8?

A: The culture and the rich history of the Ward.


Q: What's your favorite food?

A: Pasta and crab boils from Crafty Crab.


Q: What motivates you at work?

A: Finding solutions to assist people and teaching them problem-solving skills so they can help themselves in the future.


Q: What's your favorite work-related memory?

A: Being able to service our residents during the Pandemic.


Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: A lawyer.

Q: What's your greatest accomplishment thus far?

A:
* Engaging residents during the Pandemic;
* Increasing our outreach footprint on social media; and
* Educating residents about the difference between what the Councilmember is responsible for and what our partners in the Mayor's Office are responsible for.


Q: What else do you want to share about yourself?

A: I am a mother of two and grandmother of one.
