Did you know that women play an integral role in farming and the agriculture business around the world? More than 41% of the world’s women have a job in agriculture — and in many of the countries where Heifer works, these women are responsible for keeping their farms running! But due to deeply ingrained customs and traditions, they are also expected to be the primary caregivers at home and are responsible for most household duties — often without equal access to finances, markets, land ownership rights and education.

Fortunately, thanks to the support of loyal friends like you, Heifer is working hard to help close the gender gap in agriculture and create lasting change for female farmers. And it’s working — women farmers reinvest 90% of their earned income in their families, while men usually invest around 35%.

If women farmers had the same resources and opportunities as men, agricultural production could increase enough to lift MILLIONS of people out of hunger and poverty.
