Jack, as our climate crisis worsens, it will take creativity and collaboration to elect leaders who are committed to taking decisive action for our planet and our future.

Luckily, our friends at Postcards for Climate have launched a program to do just that. They are targeting four state and local races in Oregon, New Mexico, and Texas where we need climate champions on the ground—and you can help.

All you need to do right now is fill out Postcards for Climate’s volunteer form. Then, they will send you a stack of postcards where you will write messages to climate voters in your chosen state. The only cost on your end is stamps! So, Jack, are you in?

Jack, climate is on the ballot this November—and if we are going to win we need to be smart about which races we focus on at the state and local level.

Postcards for Climate is a project of Green Advocacy Project in partnership with the League of Conservation Voters (LCV). They send free postcards to volunteers who write social pressure messages to voters ahead of state and local races where climate is on the ballot.

While there are many Get Out the Vote opportunities that focus on Congress, Postcards for Climate uniquely focuses on very specific state and local races where climate will be especially key. And these low-profile races have fewer voters, so the work you do to write to infrequent, but Democratic-leaning, voters may actually end up having a bigger impact.

Right now, they are sending postcards to four places: (a) Oregon, where a three-way race for governor is uncertain, (b) New Mexico, where the race for Land Commissioner has a major climate impact, (c) Harris County, Texas (Houston) where Lina Hidalgo is a climate champion and (d) Corpus Christi, Texas that will be voting on a very dangerous desalination plant proposal.

Plans are to expand the list, but these low-profile races give you the opportunity to have a major impact on both voter turnout and our climate. You’re responsible for buying postcard stamps, but Postcards for Climate will send you everything else: postcards, the script, and a voter list, which usually deliver in about a week. Then, you write these postcards on your own time and mail them out in October.
