As the summer seems to have breezed by, many Fulfillment Fund students are already preparing to go back to class, and we are gearing up for another active school year. This fall, the education landscape is much clearer than the previous year, allowing us to create programming with meaningful resources and supports for all of our students.
The main shift for Fulfillment Fund this year is the robust expansion of our career readiness programming to prepare students for the real world. In addition to our in-depth college preparation (College Access) and persistence services (College Success), our Programs team spent the summer creating more opportunities for our high school and college students to explore careers and build their skills.
So, what is career readiness, and how does this differ from what we were doing before? Career readiness means that a student has attained and demonstrates the necessary competencies to transition from a postsecondary education into the workforce. These include skills like critical thinking, effective communication, leadership, and professionalism. However, it takes experience to build these talents, but it’s what employers seek. Knowledge about one’s industry, including the types of jobs students want to pursue, is something that traditionally you only gain as a young professional. By exposing them to this earlier in their educational journey, students become better prepared to know exactly what skills are needed to nail the interview and join the workforce.

Summer Fest 2022
Last Friday, we hosted our first ever Summer Fest in Cheviot Hills for students in our College Success Program. The fun, outdoor event brought students together with old and new friends to enjoy the day as a part of our incredible community. We had some delicious tacos, played games, and went on a treasure hunt. Check out a few of the memories we made <[link removed]>.

Practice What We Preach: Wellness
During the first year of the pandemic, the need for self-care amongst students became obvious. While our support for students remained steady, our own staff was experiencing hardships and compassion fatigue. To combat burnout, we began the “Summer of Wellness” last year and continue to do so by giving our employees time back into their day to focus on themselves.
