As some have suggested, Newsom probably could have been given the “Education Hypocrite of the Year award” because, even though he shut down schools for 80% of California’s kids, he sent his own children to a private school that was outside of the lockdown order.
And, as you probably remember, we’ve been locked in a legal battle with Newsom over re-opening schools to ALL children.
In fact, we’re readying a petition to the Supreme Court of the United States to take up this case.
The fact that Newsom accepted this award is a slap in the face to educators across the nation who are actually working with kids, face-to-face, and giving all children equal access to education.
Newsom’s shut down orders limited meaningful access to learning for thousands of young people across the state.
Our lawsuit is critical in the battle to ensure that this NEVER happens again.
Power-drunk politicians like Newsom cannot be allowed to harm parents and children without accountability or consequences.
And they certainly should NOT be receiving accolades and awards for doing so…
…especially when, according to EdSource, California students standardized test scores are dropping AND the literacy rate in California is #50 in the nation.
