Here’s what you may have missed: [link removed] [[link removed]] The Respect for Marriage Act, which passed the Democratic House, would codify gay and interracial marriage, protecting it from the threat the conservative Supreme Court poses to it post-Roe.

Now, Republicans in the Senate are claiming they might hold it up because Democrats appear poised to pass a climate bill — and they don’t want to let us have both.

It’s time for Senate Republicans to start caring about their constituents, not just scoring petty political points with right-wing extremists. We’re pushing this issue because, in his opinion overturning Roe, Clarence Thomas implied that the Due Process Clause fails to secure the right to an abortion and other substantive rights as well. Thomas wrote, "In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court's substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell."

Those three cases Thomas mentions were all watershed decisions that established constitutional rights, including the right to contraception, the right to a consensual partner of the same sex, and the right to same-sex marriage.
