Last week, Oversight and Reform Committee Democrats held a hearing to push their dangerous gun grabbing agenda and smear firearm manufacturers. Rather than focusing on hardening our schools or discussing mental health challenges riddling America’s youth, Democrats continue to politicize tragedies like Uvalde, Texas in order to advance horrendous policies that make our country less safe. This time around, Democrats slandered CEOs of gun manufacturers, including Georgia’s own Marty Daniel of Daniel Defense. During the hearing, I blasted Democrats’ baseless attacks and blew holes straight through their illogical narrative by pointing out the obvious: guns are inanimate objects; they cannot be violent or commit heinous crimes. It’s time for the Left to abandon the lie that guns are to blame for mass shootings, and instead join Republicans in addressing why deranged individuals are determined to carry out such evil acts. Additionally, the Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations held a hearing to examine the implementation of the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA) and the Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act. In short, the FITARA scorecard grades federal agencies based on their performance in FITARA-related reform and improvement activities. During the hearing, I asked witnesses about the resources required to gather agency data for the scorecard, as well as if the scorecard accurately reflects their agency’s performance in FITARA’s various categories. When anti-Second Amendment lawmakers touted and passed their gun control bill back in June, I warned Americans that this reckless legislation would spark a flurry of gun grabbing initiatives – all to achieve the Left’s dangerous dream of an unarmed America. Unfortunately, that admonition became a reality last week, as Speaker Pelosi expeditiously passed the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban.” Make no mistake, this legislation is thinly veiled tyranny that does nothing to reduce crime but everything to strip law-abiding Americans of their unalienable right to keep and bear arms. Disdain for our Constitution and ignorance of firearms do not justify infringing on law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Furthermore, Congress must legislate based on real facts, not emotion. And while Democrats are no stranger to contorting language to mislead the American people, it is deceitful to label and ban weapons based on their appearance in order to further a Big Government Socialist agenda. I will never yield in my support and defense of the Second Amendment, which is why I vehemently opposed this unconstitutional and illegal piece of legislation.

2022 Congressional Baseball Game: Republicans Back to Back Champions
|
Rep. Clyde Sporting Number 9 to Honor Georgia's 9th District
|
Since 1909, Republicans and Democrats from both chambers take a break from debating legislation to join in comradery to play in the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity. Every year, this tradition raises money for local charities, including the Washington Literacy Center and the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund. This year’s game drew in an impressive $1.7 million for these D.C. organizations, providing a great way for Members of Congress to give back to the local community that they frequent throughout the year.
If you missed the game, my Republican colleagues and I shut out the Democrats, 10-0. After building off our momentous success from last year, neither rain delays nor radical climate protesters could stop our back-to-back victory. I thoroughly enjoyed cheering on my teammates, and I look forward to competing again next year to bring home yet another GOP win!

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with executives from the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG) Power in my Washington, D.C. office. MEAG Power is a nonprofit organization that has provided reliable electricity to Georgians for nearly five decades. During our meeting, I received updates on Plant Vogtle 3 and 4, which will provide clean and affordable nuclear energy to hard-working Georgians. I’m thankful for the amazing work MEAG Power carries out in order to power Ninth District homes and businesses!

As summer comes to a close, I’d like to thank our phenomenal summer interns, Abby and Harrison, for helping Team Clyde in my D.C. office. During their time in Washington, Abby and Harrison assisted my staff with both legislative and communication projects, gave Capitol tours to constituents, and gained a deeper understanding of our legislative process. I’m thankful for all of their hard work this summer, and I wish them both the best of luck in their future endeavors!

If you or someone you know is interested in an internship opportunity, my Washington, D.C. and Gainesville offices are seeking interns for the fall semester! Our team is looking for individuals with a positive attitude that are driven, organized, and patriotic. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my staff if you have any questions.

After three grueling weeks of partisan battles in Washington, I’m thrilled to be back in the Ninth! I look forward to meeting with concerned constituents, visiting businesses to learn more about their operations, and meeting with local leaders to discuss ways we can work together for Northeast Georgians. For timely updates on the week ahead, please follow along on Facebook, Instagram, Gettr, and Twitter.
