This past year Republicans have made strides in restoring common sense law and order in the Commonwealth. We at the Republican Party of Virginia want to highlight the fantastic work our Delegates and Senators in the General Assembly were able to accomplish this past session. 

Parents across the Commonwealth were shocked to hear some of the language and photos in their child’s school books–and even teachers agreed. Senator Siobhan Dunnavant championed SB 656 [link removed], which requires the Department of Education to create a uniform policy for alerting parents that their child will be learning from sexually explicit books. School systems have the option to strengthen their policies, but this will create one comprehensive baseline. 

When we are at a crossroads in parental rights in schools, it is clear that the Republican Party hears parents, teachers, and students and is working hard to ensure they are both protected. It all goes back to Governor Glenn Youngkin saying the simple phrase “parents matter.”

We here at the Republican Party of Virginia stand behind Senator Dunnavant. We thank her for her dedication to protecting parental rights and ensuring our children are protected in schools.
