John Delaney for President

there --

A lot has been said about health care over the course of the Democratic Presidential Primary so far.

Health care could make or break this election for Democrats. It's important to me that you know where I stand, so please take a moment to read this:

Like my fellow candidates, I also believe health care is a fundamental human right.

That's the underlying premise of BetterCare, my plan to provide universal, quality health care coverage for all Americans.

BetterCare guarantees that every single American has health coverage by:

offering a free public insurance plan to everyone under age 65; and
by strengthening Medicare to support everyone over 65.
Unlike many of my fellow candidates who are continuing to push "Medicare for All," my plan offers the option to opt out of BetterCare for a private health insurance policy.

And unlike "Medicare for All", this plan works. It won't bankrupt our hospitals and it gives you the choice to control your own health care.

But to keep beating the drum on this critical issue, we need your help.

Health care is too important in this election to get it wrong. Please make a donation right now to keep our health care agenda front and center:

Our plan is the most practical way to achieve universal health care coverage in America. Let's go through some of the basics:

First, can we afford it? Yes! My BetterCare plan is fully paid for without requiring massive tax increases.

In addition to redirecting our current health care spending my plan would allow the federal government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for lower drug costs (like most major developed countries already do), which could save nearly $850 billion. This is a critical piece of my health care plan, because it makes no sense why Americans pay so much more for medications than people around the world.

Second, why keep private insurance? There are quite a few reasons why we should allow private insurance to stay in the mix, but most importantly it gives families more control over the health care they receive.

If you're unhappy with the free federal health insurance plan, you can supplement it with the plan of your choice.

On top of that, it will keep our hospital system solvent by boosting their overall reimbursement rates. The "Medicare for All" plan risks forcing hospitals to close by keeping reimbursement rates the same, which are significantly lower for patients on Medicare than for those on a private insurance plan.

Because at the root of all of this is making sure that the plan we migrate to has to work. It has to be able to pay for itself, and it has to keep our hospitals and doctor offices open.

Getting this wrong could cost Democrats the election. We can't afford to let that happen. If you agree, please donate to my campaign today:

BetterCare is our best option because it's more than just talking points. It's a practical and real solution to America's health care crisis.

It works because it gets everyone insured from birth -- with no premiums or tax hikes (unlike "Medicare for All").

It works for America's small businesses struggling to afford rising premiums. It works for medical professionals who won't be able to keep their practices running on Medicare reimbursement rates alone. And it works for individuals who want to be able to switch jobs, start a new business, or just generally want the security of knowing they have health insurance, no matter what state they live in or what their income level is.

Americans deserve to get the health care coverage that they both want and need. A plan that's a big idea that we can turn into real action to create a more prosperous, more secure, and more just future for every American.
