Dear John,

Last Friday, Oregon’s youth, led by the Pacific Climate Warriors and the youth climate strikers, once again took to the streets in rallies to demand climate action now. I was proud to stand with other young environmental leaders at the Portland rally. At 23 years old, I am the youngest member of the OLCV staff and my climate fate will be sealed by the time I am 33. I’m passionate about doing this work because I know that my future health and happiness depends on the actions that we take today.

We only have 11 years left to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Yet despite the global crisis we’re facing and the fact that Oregonians overwhelmingly support climate action, our Legislature once again failed to act this year. I will never forget the senate gallery full of young people turning their backs as senate leadership announced that HB2020, Clean Energy Jobs, was dead. Or their solemn expressions as they stood in silent protest in the senate halls, holding their elected leaders accountable.
We need elected leaders who aren’t afraid to put people over profits and lead boldly on climate. That’s why I’m proud to work for OLCV. We hold our elected officials accountable and help elect environmental champions who will make the right decisions when it comes to protecting our people and places.

Support our work by using your Political Tax Credit to give to OLCV today. Your donation will help us build the grassroots support that we need to elect environmental champions in 2020 and beyond. Oregon’s youth, including me, are counting on you.

Sincerely,
Marquis Mason, OLCV Engagement Organizer
