Hey y'all! Here's what's going on with the chapter this week —
-
Our Entergy Municipalization campaign is heating up! Our members joined coalition partners outside of Entergy's headquarters this Monday to protest rate hikes and shutoffs, both in New Orleans and Statewide. You might have even seen us on the news! You can take immediate actions today by signing on to our petition to end shutoffs — go to EvacuateEntergy.com today to email New Orleans City council or your Lousiana Public Service Commissioners. We won't pay for their negligence. Join us at our new meeting time on Thursday at 7pm as we discuss next steps. Link to join that call is here.
-
In City Council tomorrow, there will be another surveillance ordinance up for a vote, this time to put some specific language in place for oversight, data reporting, and explicitly prohibiting surveillance regarding abortion and same-sex relationships. Our coalition partners from Eye on Surveillance are asking for us to come out in support of these amendments. You can show up tomorrow in City Council Chambers at 11am, or submit commens online here now. Item is "Regular 19. CAL. NO. 33,809 - BY: COUNCILMEMBERS MORENO, HARRIS AND MORRELL."
-
This Saturday! Our Brakelight Clinic and Health Fair returns to Andre Cailloux Park on Bayou Road. Event is from 1-4pm! There will be free brake light changes, community health resources, food, and more! Want to volunteer? Fill out this form, and come through at 12:30 for a quick training demo — we'll get you trained and assigned a role. Even if you don't need your brake light changed, come by and meet some comrades!
-
In other news our monthly meeting of the Local Council, our chapter's elected leadership body, will be on Monday (8/8) at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings! If you have questions, or want to submit agenda items for consideration by the Local Council, please email [email protected].
Solidarity,
New Orleans DSA Local Council

New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. If you've got any questions about how to get involved or the work our chapter is doing, give us a shout at [email protected].
Not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join today!
