We saw a double digit victory for reproductive rights in Kansas last night. In case you missed it: Kansas, a state with 2 Republican senators, 3 out of 4 Republican congresspersons and Republican supermajorities in both state houses, voted overwhelmingly against a measure that would’ve paved the way for a statewide ban on all abortions.
Last night’s victory proves what we have been saying all along: When our rights are on the ballot, we win. The wave of support for women and birthing persons continues to rise following the Supreme Court’s ruling in June, and Voto Latino’s own research has found that 2/3rds of Latinx voters in key swing states are in favor of abortion in most or all cases. Now is the time to capitalize on this moment.

Our rights will be on the ballot again this fall. In order to win, we must keep up the energy we saw in Kansas. Last night’s results show what an educated, motivated electorate can do. The chances of Kansans waking up this morning with fewer rights than they had yesterday was 50/50 — but we saw the power of the vote, in real time! To stop right-wing legislatures and Republican-appointed judges from continuing to march our country backward, we have to fight this battle at the ballot box.
As a trusted messenger in the Latino community, Voto Latino is uniquely positioned to carry this message across the finish line in November. We have 97 days until then. Please donate now to register pro-choice voters and protect our rights this fall.
