John –
My top priority as Hennepin County Attorney is bringing our county together around a shared vision for public safety. Tonight, I’m joining a forum in George Floyd Square led by community-based organizations.
Too often are leaders making decisions on behalf of communities without first listening to the needs of the people who have first-hand experience with the issues at-hand. There are many people in our county who, unfortunately, see crime in their neighborhoods every day.
I’ve said many times that our community can only solve our rising public safety problems together.
We have so many community members who have stepped in as a result of a drop in law enforcement officers in recent years. They’ve formed or joined groups and organizations aimed at violence prevention, restorative justice, generational healing and de-escalation. We need to hear their voices.
Even as we move toward effective plans to fill the empty ranks of law enforcement officers in Minneapolis, we must continue to listen to and work with community members if we’re going to address crime and create an improved public safety system.
RSVP to tonight’s event if you plan to come and join the conversation. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Ryan
