Americans Should Go to Taiwan

Just last week, I was proud to serve as the Republican lead on landmark legislation to combat Chinese aggression. It passed the House and Senate - and when it becomes law, we will take back the capacity to build national security infrastructure here in America again.

The Chinese Communist Party doesn’t like it. In fact, they hate my bill. They’ve said so.

And, Friend, I don’t care.

Ronald Reagan taught us best: when it comes to national security, we do what is necessary to defeat America’s enemies and advance America’s interests.

That’s why, despite all my many disagreements with her, I knew Nancy Pelosi MUST go to Taiwan, like she said she would. I commend the bravery of any American willing to follow through on their promises to our allies in the face of threats.

Taiwan is an ally and trading partner. When our senior Congressional leaders are being cowed into not setting foot in the capitals of our closest friends, we will know America has slipped from its place of leadership in the world. And for our shame and cowardice, we’ll deserve it. The world deserves better.

The Chinese Communist Party is an oppressive regime with designs on conquering Taiwan. They abuse their people and their position of power. Most of all, they do not tell us what to do.

America is still the leading light of freedom in the world. And the mark of freedom is to go wherever in this world you are welcomed.

May we never cower in the face of tyrants.
