John --
Welcome to the November Parkhurst Pulse!
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year!
The General Assembly finished Veto Session on November 14. The
House will convene in the new year for Spring Session on January
28.
Please contact my District Office with any questions or concerns
regarding any state issue. We are here to help.
Very truly yours, Lindsay Parkhurst 79th District State
Representative
Fighting for you!
Stronger Ethics in Government
In October, I joined my colleagues to introduce an ethics task
force to re-examine our government ethics. The ethics task force was
only the first step. My Republican colleagues identified several
activities, all of which were completely legal, but we agreed as
ethically wrong. I
cosponsored several bills to close these loopholes and start true
ethics reform. Unfortunately, House Democrats gave lip service and
did not call any of these bills to the floor and introduced their own
partisan task force in the dead of night before the last day of
session. I will continue to fight for real ethics reforms in the
Spring Session.
Safety on our Roads
Shortly after a horrific collision
on US 45/52 and 8000S Rd, I gathered stakeholders between Iroquois
County, Kankakee County, IDOT, Illinois State Police, and
Representative Bennett to discuss ways to improve the intersection.
Remember to drive sober, put down your phone when you get behind
the wheel, and make a complete stop at all stop signs. Safe driving
makes sure we all get where we need to go.
Keeping Prescriptions Affordable
Insulin is a lifesaving drug for those with diabetes. Recent
increases in the price of this drug have left many Illinoisans
rationing their doses or unable to pay. SB
667 caps copays for insulin prescriptions to $100 per 30
days for state insurance plans to provide affordable access to this
life-saving medication.
Around the District
The weather is getting cold, but I
make sure to make my way around our beautiful 79th
District!
Principal for a Day
I had the pleasure of joining Momence CUSD #1 at Je-Neir Elementary
School with Principal Stewart for Principal for a Day! I was so
impressed with what the students are learning and how innovative the
learning environment is. Thank you for giving me this opportunity!
Free Health Insurance &
Wellness Fair
I hosted a free health insurance and wellness fair in November to
help constituents get information and help on how to get insured
and receive free health screenings. I even received my own
screening!
Honoring our Veterans
It is important to honor our veterans and thank them for the
sacrifices they made for our country. I joined Coal City and its
program to show our gratitude to our amazing veterans!
Constituent
Services
Part of my job as a state
representative is to assist you with navigating problems with state
agencies. From assisting gun owners with FOID and CCL applications to
navigating the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, my office
successfully assisted 14 constituents in the month of November. It is
my pleasure to serve you!
