Act now: Senators voting on Inflation Reduction Act this week
TAKE ACTION [link removed]
Dear John,
This week, the Senate could finally vote on legislation to provide much-needed relief to millions across the U.S. and address climate change. These critical investments are part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a budget reconciliation bill that requires only a simple majority to pass.
Tell your senators: Pass this legislation now without harmful amendments
The Inflation Reduction Act would:
Make prescription drugs more affordable by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices.
Lower health insurance costs for 13 million people under the Affordable Care Act.
Invest in tax credits for clean energy projects that could reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40% by 2030.
Fund some of these initiatives by increasing taxes on large corporations and high-income individuals.
The vote on this bill comes after more than a year of advocacy by people and communities across the U.S. demanding relief and action to address the climate crisis. While the legislation includes some concessions to the fossil fuel industry, it still makes concrete investments in the health and well-being of our communities and our environment. Yet this plan is still at risk of being cut to a point beyond meaningful impact.
Now Congress must pass the Inflation Reduction Act to provide immediate relief—without any amendments that would weaken these investments. Elected officials must say NO to any changes that would undermine health care provisions, dilute efforts to protect the environment, or harm immigrant communities.
Our elected officials must hear from us today. Tell your senators: Act now to reduce health care costs and address climate change! [link removed]
