Dear John,

In June, the word in D.C. was that Trump was going to bomb Iran after the downing of a U.S. drone. Just a month later, NIAC and our allies did what many thought unachievable—delivered a bipartisan consensus that the President does not have the authority to start a war with Iran.

Unfortunately—despite the fact that the bill passed overwhelmingly in the House, secured a majority vote in the Senate, and gained support from progressives and conservatives alike—Mitch McConnell bowed to the White House this week and stripped the No War with Iran language from the annual defense bill.[1]

We must keep up the pressure against a disastrous war.

Will you contribute $25, $50, or an amount right for you to support NIAC's anti-war efforts? >>

NIAC has championed the cause of peace for nearly two decades and will continue fighting to ensure that the U.S. and Iran return to diplomacy, rather than fall into the trap of endless escalations. But to secure peace, Iranian Americans must have a seat at the decision-making table and we need your support to make that happen.

We must not overlook how close we came to war, and how far we've come since Trump narrowly pulled back from bombing Iran in June. Our ongoing efforts, supported by you, ensure we can champion diplomacy and human rights while pressing for an end to inhumane sanctions that punish ordinary Iranians.[2, 3]

We've got a plan to continue the fight in the weeks ahead:

  • NIAC will unveil its report next month detailing how the U.S. and Iran can broker a new diplomatic initiative (our previous report was impetus for all the major 2020 presidential candidates pledging to return to the nuclear deal).

  • A group of prominent lawmakers we are working with will send a letter to Trump this week urging sanctions relief for medicine and humanitarian goods for Iranians.

  • We are actively pushing the U.S. Treasury to lift sanctions aggravating internet censorship in Iran.[4]

  • Bipartisan supporters of the No War With Iran resolution are working now on future legislative efforts to legally bar a military conflict with Iran.

We rely on your support to continue these critical efforts. If this work is important to you, please make your contribution today.

As always, thank you for all that you do.

Best,

Jamal Abdi
President, NIAC
