Dear John,
As a neurologist, Dr. David Beversdorf, Professor of Radiology,
Neurology, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri
and the Thompson Center, always has the brain on his mind. His
interest in understanding how we think led him to explore how thinking
in autism is different. Now his work focuses on how the brain impacts
social skills in autistic people, and ultimately, how to help.
Over the last decade, Autism Speaks science has led to major
breakthroughs that are already allowing us to better understand and
help people with autism. Our research has resulted in earlier
diagnosis of autism and the knowledge that timely interventions
improve outcomes, a better understanding of the medical and mental
health conditions around autism, and the recognition that each person
with autism has a unique biology, which will, in turn, lead to more
personalize care. The collaborative efforts of researchers like Dr.
Beversdorf and Autism Speaks are helping to create a world where all
people with autism can reach their full potential. But we can't do it
without your help.
As a friend, we know you care
about people with autism and we'd love to have you join us for our
2022 Washington, DC Walk.
