Tell the Biden administration states must track and set targets to cut carbon from transportation!
The Biden Administration is on the Right Path to Sustainable Transportation — But They Need to Hear from You!
A new proposal from the Department of Transportation (DOT) would require states to measure and come up with targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. Tell Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to finalize this important proposal!
Price gouging at the gas pump and the growing number of climate-fueled disasters make it ever so clear that we must invest in sustainable transportation options that save fuel. Transportation is now the largest source of climate-busting carbon emissions in the United States.
President Biden's infrastructure law that passed last November will fortunately make record investments in our transportation system — more than $600 billion is set to go to states and cities over the next five years. These funds are available for a variety of purposes like bus rapid transit, commuter rail, bicycle lanes, electric vehicle charging stations, and road safety improvements.
In July, President Biden's Department of Transportation (DOT) released a proposal that would require states to measure greenhouse gas pollution from their highway and transportation programs and come up with plans to reduce those emissions.
DOT is accepting public comments on this proposal now, so we have an important opportunity to help encourage states to put the historic transportation investments toward sustainable solutions!
Only in the past decade have public officials gotten serious about measuring the performance of our transportation system in terms of its safety and quality. But those efforts will never be complete if states don't account for climate pollution and find ways to reduce emissions on highways across the country. This proposal is an important step toward a more sustainable transportation future across the United States.
The signs of a worsening climate crisis are all around us this summer — record heat waves, raging wildfires, devastating floods, wilting crops. This proposal will give states and local agencies additional resources to reduce transportation's carbon footprint.
