Tonight was a monumental victory for our community and our work together to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship.
In a critical Michigan primary featuring two Democratic members of Congress, pro-Israel champion Rep. Haley Stevens handily defeated Andy Levin.
This political battle was bigger than just the candidates on the ballot. It was an opportunity to defeat a detractor of the U.S.-Israel relationship and to strengthen support for Israel – both within the Democratic Party and in Congress overall.
Rep. Stevens, a progressive Democrat, was backed by the AIPAC PAC and received significant financial support from leaders in our community through the AIPAC Political Portal. She becomes the 10th pro-Israel Democratic candidate we've helped this cycle to defeat a primary challenger who worked to weaken the U.S.-Israel relationship.
United Democracy Project, the AIPAC-backed super PAC, played a leading role in supporting Haley Stevens and helping defeat Andy Levin. Congressman Levin was characterized by Ha’aretz as "one of Israel’s biggest critics in Congress" and was endorsed by Bernie Sanders, Rashida Tlaib and J Street.
I want to thank you for your commitment to our work together. As the threats facing Israel continue to grow, strengthening our political involvement is essential to advancing the U.S.-Israel relationship and ensuring that Israel is safe, strong and secure.
As we celebrate tonight’s win, we know we are just at the beginning of a long-term political fight to keep Congress pro-Israel. There will be more significant races this year, and each year for the foreseeable future, where we’ll be asking the community to help support a pro-Israel leader running for Congress.
Thank you again for your leadership and support – congratulations on a major win!
Sincerely,
Betsy Berns Korn
