Dear friends,

Much of our advocacy this summer has been laser-focused on making the return to schools as safe as possible for students, teachers, and families alike – and we’re pleased to write to you about our progress.

This is a crucial time to lay the groundwork before the back-to-school season. Research from the National Threat Assessment Center shows that targeted attacks increase after extended absences, so we are committed to working together and across the aisle to deliver real results for American families and schools.

We need your help to be ready to keep this nation’s school safe – to support this work, please consider sending in a gift today to fund our advocacy efforts.

In our home state of Florida, two crucial new laws addressing school safety and student mental health passed earlier this year became law on July 1st.

First, Florida HB 899 requires district school boards to designate a mental health coordinator and allocates more funding and resources for mental health assistance. This is critical to ensuring the well-being of students and their families. This bill passed following testimony from our President, Tony Montalto.

Another bill that passed was Florida HB 1421, which enhances school safety and security requirements. These include adding school safety officers and putting in place strengthened plans for threat assessment, emergency drills and more to leave schools better prepared to prevent violence in school.

Both of these bills are important improvements to the safety of our kids and teachers in school and represent exactly the kind of progress at the core of Stand With Parkland’s mission. We’re happy with this step forward, and we look forward to continuing to advocate for more life-saving school safety and mental health measures like them.

However, our mission doesn’t stop at any given anniversary. To help us keep up our movement for school safety and responsible firearm ownership, please donate today >>
