Since the 2010 Citizens United decision, wealthy special interests and big-money donors have been allowed to spend unlimited and undisclosed amounts of money to influence American elections and, in turn, affect policy outcomes.
Our democracy has suffered as a result. While the wealthy few enjoy largely unchecked power, frontline communities and working families struggle to make progress on healthcare, racial justice, reproductive rights, and environmental justice.
The DISCLOSE Act (S.443) would go a long way toward reining in some of the damage. It closes major loopholes in the current donor disclosure laws, strengthens bans on using foreign money for electioneering purposes, requires campaign ads to list the top donors in the ad itself, and more. Urge your senators to support this critically important legislation.

Read more about the DISCLOSE Act below.
Jack, pro-MAGA dark money groups planned, promoted, and paid for the rally on Janu?ary 6 where Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the Capitol. They continue to fund well-debunked conspiracy theories, and are spending millions to elect insurrectionists.

Wealthy special interests and big-money donors hold too much power, and they use political loopholes to hide their spending on lobbying, elections, and judicial confirmation hearings. Despite anonymous donors' outsized influence in our political system, the American public doesn't know who they are, where the money comes from, or how much they're spending to upend democracy.
The DISCLOSE Act (S.443) would stop anonymous spending in our elections by requiring entities trying to influence our elections to disclose their major political donors. It would also increase transparency on political advertisements by requiring disclosure of major donors who underwrite advertisements supporting or attacking judicial nominees.
Overwhelming majorities support requiring super PACs and dark money groups to make their donors public; making nearly all political contributions fully transparent; providing more transparency into lobbyist fundraising; prohibiting political candidates from benefiting from unlimited secret corporate money to boost their campaigns; and requiring organizations engaged in political activity to disclose their large donors.

In 2010, this legislation garnered 59 votes in the Senate, one vote shy of breaking a Republican filibuster. The House approved it twice in 2021 as part of comprehensive voting rights bills. Currently, all 50 members of the Senate Democratic caucus have cosponsored the bill. As of this writing, there are no Republican cosponsors.
The big lie is still a rally?ing cry for Trump Republicans. And dark money is funding their ongoing plot to overturn the results of future elections. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and it's time to clean up our democracy. The DISCLOSE Act of 2021 would help restore transparency and accountability to our political system. Demand your U.S. senators support it today.
