Bipartisan Solutions for Colorado

INTRODUCING THE HOUSE COMPANION TO THE BIPARTISAN DOLORES RIVER NATIONAL CONSERVATION AREA AND SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA ACT

I introduced H.R. 8601 as the bipartisan House Companion to Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper’s bill to designate part of the Dolores River Corridor as a National Conservation Area and Special Management Area while protecting private water rights.

After nearly two decades in the making, this well-crafted legislation ensures traditional uses like grazing, uranium mining and other mineral extraction, and motorized-vehicle use will continue.

Most importantly, this bill will remove the Dolores River from consideration as a Wild and Scenic River (WSR) designation by the Bureau of Land Management. A WSR designation would not be in the best interest of rural Colorado since it would include a new federal reserved water right and prevent the aforementioned uses, negatively impacting existing private water and property rights. I am a strong advocate for protecting private water rights, which is why I introduced this legislation and the Western Water Security Act to prevent federal water grabs.

HONORING AN AMERICAN HERO WHO STOPPED AN ACTIVE SHOOTING

I introduced a House Resolution honoring twenty-two-year-old Elisjsha Dicken, who defended his fellow citizens by stopping an active shooter at the Greenwood Park Mall in Greenwood, Indiana. When an active shooter opened fire in the mall’s food court, Eli sprung into action and engaged the shooter with his 9mm Glock.

While many career politicians are working to disarm law-abiding citizens like Eli, I’m committed to ensuring that we uphold the Constitutional right to defend one’s self. I defend the Second Amendment to stand with heroes like Eli who put their own lives on the line to protect others. Eli’s choice to exercise his constitutional right to self-defense saved countless lives, and I am grateful for his bravery.

146 years ago this week, Colorado became the 38^th state. I am forever grateful to represent the greatest state in the Union, and I strive to bring Colorado values to Congress. I will never stop advocating for the West’s way of life, and I will keep working to make sure that politicians and bureaucrats understand how their decisions in Washington, D.C. impact folks on the ground.

I have three District offices in Pueblo, Durango, and Grand Junction, but my team understands that sometimes it can be hard to make the drive out to our offices—so we are coming to you! My office has hosted hundreds of mobile office hours in every county in Colorado’s Third District.

My office exists to serve you. If you are having issues with a federal agency or want your voice to be heard, please schedule an appointment at one of my District offices or come to one of our mobile office hours, and a member of my team will be happy to assist you. My team has successfully helped over 1,600 constituents who weren’t getting answers from federal agencies, like veterans seeking to get the care they earned from the VA, travelers needing expedited assistance to receive a passport on short notice, taxpayers being harassed by the IRS, senior citizens having issues with the Social Security Administration or Medicare, and more.
