Friend, government scientists at the Department of Defense are developing the next generation of COVID-19 vaccines — vaccines that better fight the virus we’re currently dealing with as well as other types of coronavirus.
This vital vaccine research is being funded entirely with taxpayer dollars. But private companies are pushing for monopoly control over the production and distribution of these vaccines.
We already saw the damage private control caused during the initial COVID-19 vaccine rollout:
There were vaccine shortages worldwide
Vaccine supplies had to be rationed, meaning millions of people had to wait in line for shots to become available
And the government had to pay pharma excessively high prices to vaccinate Americans
It’s simple, friend: If life-saving vaccines are developed by government researchers with taxpayer dollars, corporations should not get to control their production and make excessive profits from these vaccines.
That’s why Public Citizen and our allies sent a letter to President Biden.
We urged him to share new vaccine technology with qualified manufacturers worldwide and not to give it away to private corporations who would monopolize the production of new vaccines.
