Instructing your lawyers and staff to round up your loyal followers to serve as fake electors from states that you lost sure sounds like a crime, doesn’t it? The Department of Justice seems to think so. Now that the January 6th hearings are on a break, investigators are dialing up the pressure on some of Trump’s closest allies in their criminal investigation into the events of that day. We know that Trump helped orchestrate a violent attack on our country as a last ditch effort to overturn the 2020 election results. But now the Department of Justice is investigating the extent of Trump’s personal, and potentially criminal, involvement in planning to swap in fake electors from states that Biden clearly and fairly won to try and undo the results. But plenty of people are looking at what Trump did leading up January 6th not as a series of crimes, but as a playbook that can be replicated in 2024 and beyond should elections not go their way—and those people are running for office this year. One of the most important things you can do this fall is to vote for candidates who believe in democracy and are willing to fight for us. These insurrectionists participated in a coup and are complicit in violence and lives lost. It’s impossible for them to represent our interests in Congress when they purposefully helped attack our country. Thanks for all that you do. Maggie & Sami
