John,

Recently, we have seen more of what the modern enemies of democracy want to do with their power should they succeed in destroying it.

They want to destroy all equality before the law. They want to deny same-sex and interracial couples the right to marry. They want to strip us of our capability to make decisions for our own bodies, to force people into pregnancy by denying us the use of contraception, and then force us into birth or death through the denial of reproductive health care.

We know that the majority of Pennsylvanians disagree with these positions and believe in protecting reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights.

John, these extremists want to take away our voice in government so they can take away our choices over everything else. Will you chip in $10 today to help us empower the Commonwealth’s voters to speak up in favor of our rights?

The connection between anti-democratic extremism and the war on our rights is easy to see here in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania’s Republican Party nominated a candidate for Governor who was an enthusiastic participant in Donald Trump’s plot to overturn the 2020 general election. This candidate wants a no-exceptions ban on abortion and has demonstrated disgust for anyone who doesn’t agree with his belief that homosexuality is “aberrant sexual conduct.”

We even have a Congressman who voted against protecting same-sex and interracial marriages three days before going to his own son’s same-sex wedding.

NPP’s own Chief Executive Officer Kadida Kenner writes, “The horrors of the insurrection painted a picture of our new, grim reality. One in which a relentless and violent minority rides roughshod over our rights until they get what they want. We see that right here in Pennsylvania, where extremist politicians are attempting to force through constitutional amendments which would strip residents of a laundry list of essential rights and freedoms.”

John, the fight for our democracy and the fight for our rights are one and the same. If they succeed in destroying our democracy, there’s no doubt they’ll go even further, but we won’t back down. We continue our work to protect our democracy and our rights by expanding the electorate. Will you join us and donate $10 right now to invest in registering communities of color, immigrant communities, and the youth to vote and make their voices heard in every election — twice a year?

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in under-represented communities of color and immigrant communities. We will register them to vote, provide education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize people to vote in every election.
