August 2, 2022 Dear John xxxxxx, Our Moving Beyond Pandemic podcast is back with a new episode. It examines how digital tools that automatically verify health and COVID-19 vaccination results have helped reopen economies and resume global mobility. While public discourse about digital health credentials often focuses on actions by the World Health Organization or the European Union, the episode highlights two innovations that have received far less attention: India’s DIVOC system and the African Union Trusted Traveler system. Both are examples of how the pandemic fueled important digital innovations in regions with lower levels of digital use, lower capacity at borders, and a more nascent health system—setting the standard for new ways of managing mobility and health that will outlast the public health crisis. Host Meghan Benton discusses the use of digital health credentials with Dr. Pramod Varma, the chief architect of India's digital identity program and its COVID pass system; Dr. Edem Adzogenu, co-chair and founder of the Afro Champions Initiative; and Lawrence Huang, a Migration Policy Institute associate policy analyst working on MPI’s Task Force on Borders and Mobility During and After COVID-19. Past episodes of Moving Beyond Pandemic have examined fundamental questions of mobility amid COVID-19, including: Would curbing globalization prevent future pandemics? How has the pandemic affected the human smuggling industry? Have travel restrictions been as effective as they could be? We have some interesting topics ahead, so tune in wherever you get your audio content or by visiting www.migrationpolicy.org/podcasts. And stay up to date on our work examining how the pandemic is shaping mobility, labor markets, and more: www.migrationpolicy.org/COVID19.
