Imagine, for a moment, that you are the new Executive Director of the LGBTQ advocacy organization in your home state. No matter what kind of experience you’ve had, it’s a big job. Here’s the conversation I almost always have with new EDs:

New ED: “This is a lot. This is hard. I feel overwhelmed.” 
Me: “It sure is. It would be weird if you didn’t feel that at least a little bit.”
