Tonight is National Night Out — a day to build upon the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
Let’s be clear: We have a LOT of work to do when it comes to community policing. We must hold law enforcement accountable while doing the work collectively to know our neighbors and our surroundings.
There is no easy way to address this — it is going to require conversation, relationship building, and work on the ground across Philadelphia. It is going to require leadership that originates from the community.
That’s why Derek proposed legislation that protects you and your loved ones AND the lives of those on the frontline. His bill requiring the reporting of body armor sales would prevent senseless killings and is supported by communities and police alike.
Derek is spending National Night Out at locations around the City. We know that when we come together to find common ground, we can make amazing things happen for Philadelphia.
Will you join?
