Ballots are due tomorrow to send Stephanie Gallardo for Congress into the Primary against twenty-four year incumbent warhawk Rep. Adam Smith. Our members chose to endorse Stephanie Gallardo, a union organizer, teacher, and member of our chapter because she's anchored to our community, opposed to war, wants Medicare for All and fully-funded public education, and safe passage and dignity for immigrants arriving in the US. We voted to support her for what she stands for and how deeply Adam Smith has failed people in King County: voted for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, letting Roe vs Wade be overturned despite serving under multiple majorities in Congress who feigned support of abortion rights. Get those ballots in. We're emphasizing the peoples' struggle in this election. There's a watch party Tuesday night.
We also have deadlines to get signatures turned in for Initiative 135, which would create a social housing program that would develop housing for all and then leverage that housing to build news ones, modeled after Austrian Communists and Red Vienna's social housing where people from every walk of life wants to live, free from the exploitation of landlords and stabilized indefinitely. Imagine never seeing rent or mortgage go up again and housing that is high-quality, racially and economically integrated, so no one is "swept" by the violence of city officials ever again.
Finally, there's the August General Membership Meeting next Tuesday.
