John,

I wouldn’t be reaching out if this wasn’t urgent. Watch the video below to hear why:

Chris Lamar, CLC legal counsel

Long before I became CLC’s legal counsel for redistricting, I was living in Broward County, FL — a county with a hanging chad problem in 2000. I was 15 years old during that election, and I remember watching election officials pore over ballots with magnifying glasses.

It was chaos. And while it was clear that voting rights were important to me, I was at a loss of how to get involved.

Campaign Legal Center’s efforts to achieve fairness in our democratic process motivated me to work to eliminate gerrymandering through the creation and protection of Independent Redistricting Commissions (IRCs).

IRCs are nonpartisan redistricting bodies that make sure lawmakers don’t redraw district maps on partisan lines.  They also...

  • Give a voice to the voiceless
  • Lift up historically marginalized communities to communicate their wants and needs in a unified way
  • Ensure a fair, representative, and inclusive democracy

At the end of the day, if jurisdictions are gerrymandered and politicians don’t agree, we won’t be heard. Every one of us needs to be a part of protecting our democratic process, especially ahead of 2020. A lot is at risk if we don’t act now.

Do your part and join us in the fight for a responsive and representative government. Contribute to CLC today.
