Basford Culture Centre in the works!

cultural centre
cultural centre

After laying empty for some time, the old St Leo’s church hall, on Nottingham Road is being refurbished and will become the new Basford Cultural Centre.

It has been acquired by local Muslims to create a space where worship and prayer can take place as well as improving interfaith community connections and conversations.

There will be a kitchen within the centre which it is hoped will serve hot meals to those in need and provide advice and information to people.

Planning permission has been granted to start work, so watch this space as building works starts!

Making Berridge safer for everyone

Work is now complete on the infamous Haydyn Road/Nottingham Road junction. Better, safer pedestrian crossings have been added on each arm of this junction.

To make this happen we used money secured from the government’s Active Travel Fund to promote walking and cycling in the area for school kids, older people, cyclists and drivers who will all be safer for it!

Litter Picks and Day of Action

Berridge

Thank you to everyone who joined in with the Big Spring Clean in Berridge!

We had the privilege of our MP Nadia Whittome joining us on one of our litter pick sessions on Harcourt Road - the litter picks have been a great opportunity for us to talk to local people and pick up other issues too.

Please let us know if you would like to organise a litter pick session on your street.

How about joining our Nottingham Clean Champions scheme? You'll get a free litter-picking kit, and join over 7000 volunteers across the city making a difference on their doorstep.

The scheme provides the tools and resources needed to clean up your street, and we will be there to support you.

Berridge Ward Public Meeting

meeting

One of the local mosques invited councillors for a public meeting to discuss their local issues in the ward. Plenty of casework was picked up and their concerns were listened too as well as contact details were exchanged. On-going regular consultation has been agreed as a way forward.

Saying Thank You

Councillor surgeries - come along

Do you have any issues or concerns about your neighbourhood?

Your councillors are happy to meet residents at their surgery and take on resident issues – 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 11am-12 of each month at the Mary Potter Centre, Gregory Boulevard.

Casework levels are increasing, particularly since we’ve been holding regular surgeries since September. People are clearly appreciative of being able to come and see us at regular times.

Whilst we have been dealing with the usual issues, there is a noticeable increase in the people coming to see us needing help with financial issues and the DWP and we are linking people up with advice centres and the Nottingham Financial Resilience Forum. We are also providing support where we can to people having issues with their social security claims.

Ward walks are now regularly back on, covering all areas of the ward, identifying issues, repairs and maintenance, and speaking to local residents. If you would like to join us or want to request a walk around your area let us know.
