I don’t need to tell you the horrific stats about gun violence in America, compared to the rest of the world. This is one of our country’s most devastating public health epidemics. And yet, thanks to NRA gun lobbyists and misinformation campaigns, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have not received any substantial Congressional funding to study gun violence for more than two decades.

Without dedicated research, how do we know what the most effective methods are to disrupt gun violence? How do we know what kind of programs should be in place to provide meaningful treatment to gun violence survivors? We need real research about the combination of policies that are successful in combating gun violence.

The good news is that last month, the House of Representatives approved $50 million for gun violence research in its budget—now it's time for the Senate to do the same.

Today gun violence prevention groups are pushing the Senate to pass the $50 million for gun violence research. Take action with me today and tell Senators to fund gun violence research.

We’ve seen the House working hard and passing gun reform legislation that will keep Americans safer, while the Senate actively ignores similar legislation. It’s time they do their job. Communities are impacted by gun violence in a such a terrible variety of ways that we need a holistic variety of solutions.

Tell your Senator to fund gun violence research now and to allocate $50 million for the CDC and NIH to conduct extensive and comprehensive gun violence research. Gun violence is a public health crisis and it is time Congress fund research to understand the problem and its solutions better.
