Your vote is your voice and it could mean the difference between bold, comprehensive action to keep our schools and neighborhoods safe or more empty thoughts and prayers. So many elections—especially local races—come down to just a handful of votes.

These elections are too important to take for granted. Electing gun responsibility champions is an essential part of our work. We could not have passed our bill to restrict high-capacity magazines without elected leaders in office who are willing to prioritize the fight against gun violence.

Local elected leaders play a vital role in the implementation of and funding for gun safety laws. We must elect leaders who will treat gun violence like the public health crisis it is, take on the gun lobby, and pass and implement the evidence-based policies that have been proven to reduce gun violence.

This November is shaping up to be a challenging one for some gun responsibility champions, which means we need to show up like never before. We have big plans to Get Out the Vote this election season by mobilizing volunteers to knock doors, phone bank, and write postcards. But our opposition is fired up and working overtime to elect candidates who will promote the gun lobby’s guns everywhere agenda.
