Happy August! Thank you so much to everyone who stepped up to donate to our end-of-month fund over the weekend. Every dollar has a meaningful impact on the work that we do, and it’s about more than just winning elections.
We know that in order to get these working-class people into office, we first need to break the barriers that hold them back. Dismantling a longstanding political system designed to favor the wealthy, powerful, and privileged takes a lot of work. Many people run several times before ever getting elected. We can do it one dollar at a time.
Regardless of outcome, every one of our candidates has been a success story. They’ve lifted up the voices of their communities, advanced the progressive movement, and inspired hope for a better, more inclusive future of government.
Here’s a recap of all the elections that your support has empowered this cycle:
8 ELECTION VICTORIES:
Mayor Peter Schwartzman (Galesburg, IL) - GENERAL
Mayor Ed Gainey (Pittsburgh, PA) - PRIMARY
Mayor Ed Gainey (Pittsburgh, PA) - GENERAL
Commissioner Shenise Turner-Sloss (Dayton, OH) Dayton City Commissioner - PRIMARY
Commissioner Shenise Turner-Sloss (Dayton, OH) Dayton City Commissioner - GENERAL
Judicial Candidate Angie Jackson (Montgomery County, OH) - PRIMARY
District Leader Shaquana Boykin (NY Assembly District 57, Brooklyn) - PRIMARY RE-ELECTION
Congressional Candidate Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-05) - PRIMARY
4 ELECTIONS WITH LASTING IMPACTS:
Jared Grandy (Dayton, OH) - Candidate for Dayton City Commission — now community organizer and leader
Jessica Mason (TX-30, Dallas) - Candidate for Congress — now B/E Director of Campaigns and preparing for law school
Joe Thompson (CA State Assembly District 28) - now continuing career as Starbucks labor union leader and finishing up college degree at UC Santa Cruz
Kimi Cole (NV) - Candidate for Lt. Governor in Nevada - now leading state rural caucus and community activist for LGBTQ+ community
And on deck, we’ve got 3 more critical races coming up:
After helping Angie Jackson win her primary election as the next Commons Pleas Judge in Montgomery County, Ohio, she’s on her way to the general election in November.
Then TOMORROW, we’ve got Bria Bennett for Ohio State House District 64 AND Daniel Ortiz for Ohio State House District 43.
We’re playing the long game here, and you’ve been instrumental in building this coalition. With your continued commitment, we can continue to expand our movement and provide more working-class changemakers the necessary resources to run for office — but it’s just not possible without grassroots supporters like you.
In JUST 13 HOURS, the polls will open up for Election Day where we've got TWO B/E candidates on the ballot in competitive primaries. If we’re going to send these two working-class progressives to office and shift away from the toxic bureaucracy of elite-only leaders calling all the shots, then we need you in this fight right now.
