700,000 DREAMers identified themselves to the U.S. government because we told them they deserved security and the ability to build a future here. We made them jump through hoops again and again with fees and applications and renewals.

And then we elected Donald Trump, who took that list of young people -- who'd done nothing wrong and were only trying to live the American dream by the rules we set -- and he saw political pawns he could hold over the heads of Democrats in Congress or simply deport to appease his draconian base.

Congress can act right now to protect the DREAMers, but they won't without an overwhelming outcry from the people who elect them.
