John –

An effective system of public safety must include improvements to the investigation tools that police departments use, it must include community members, and it must include a commitment to transparency by leadership.

If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to take a look at the priorities I’ve detailed in my P3 plan for public safety for how I intend to collaborate with local police departments and public safety agencies to address rising crime.

Prosecuting violent crime and policing improvements are two of my top priorities. But our police departments have dwindling investigative resources, even for the most serious crimes. That’s why it’s critical that we work in partnership with community organizations, and state and federal law enforcement to make the biggest impact for our community.

I've met and spoken with many chiefs and officers over the past year and it's clear to me that we have many committed officers who go to work each day with the goal of serving our communities. But we need more officers who show up ready to serve.

The peace officer recruitment bill I introduced in the state House earlier this spring, in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety, would have been a strong step toward improving our law enforcement issues - both with staffing and culture.

As I work to strengthen the networks between prosecutors, local law enforcement, and our other partners, will you work with us to help mend community-police relations? Add your name now to let us know we can count on your involvement!

Sincerely,
Ryan
